Surgery - Before and After

How can I prepare for my surgery?

PLEASE HELP US HELP YOU BY FOLLOWING THESE GUIDELINES:

DO NOT EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING (including water, mints or chewing gum) after midnight the day preceding surgery.  Undigested food can cause complications and your surgery is likely to be postponed if you forget.

BATHE OR SHOWER the morning of your surgery to minimize the chance of infection.  Teeth may be brushed, but DO NOT swallow any water.

REFRAIN FROM SMOKING after midnight on the day preceding surgery.

IF YOU SUSPECT YOU ARE PREGNANT, please notify your surgeon.  Anesthesia may be harmful to the developing fetus.

IF YOU EXPERIENCE ANY HEALTH CHANGES between your most recent visit to your surgeon and the day of surgery, notify your surgeon.  Please report even minor changes, such as elevated temperature cough or cold.

LEAVE JEWELRY AND OTHER VALABLES at home for safekeeping.  You will be asked to remove contact lenses, dentures, or other prosthesis when you dress for surgery.

WEAR COMFORTABLE, LOOSE CLOTHING.  During surgery, you will wear a patient gown provided by the center.

WEAR FLAT, comfortable, slip-on shoes.

BRING COMPLETED INSURANCE FORMS as well as your INSURANCE CARDS and medical information.  Please check with your insuraqnce company for pre-admission requirements  such as second opinions and pre-admission certification.  This will facilitate the admitting process.

Handwashing Awareness Month

The single most important thing you can do to keep from getting sick and to stop the spread of disease-causing germs is to wash your hands often. By frequently washing your hands, you wash away germs that you may have picked up from other people or from contaminated surfaces.
